Maple Leafs’ Alexander Semin hits 3-point shot to beat Avalanche in 4th period

By Mike ChambersThe Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Colorado Avalanche 4-3 in overtime on Wednesday night.

The game was tied 2-2 at the midway point of the first period.

The Leafs had a 3-2 lead in the first frame when James van Riemsdyk scored from the slot with just over 10 minutes left in the frame.

The Avalanche got back in the game, scoring a goal in the final two minutes of the period to tie it up again.

James van Rierksdyk’s game-winner at 11:53 of the third period put the Leafs up 4-2.

The Stars scored the game’s final goal at 12:04 of the second period.

Both teams traded powerplay goals to tie the game.

It was a pretty good night for the Stars. 

In the third, the Leafs went up 3-0.

Tyler Bozak scored his second goal of the season with 13:53 left in overtime to give the Leafs a 3 1/2-game lead.

The Maple Leafs added a goal from Tyler Bozman to seal the victory. 

The Stars return to action Thursday when they host the Winnipeg Jets.
