According to a recent poll conducted by the International Flower Centre, the question of which flowers should be grown in India is a hotly contested topic.
The poll was conducted in May 2017, and respondents were asked to choose from the following options: “Flowering in the garden in your backyard, with a few plants in the ground, or indoors”.
“A flower in a bush, flower bush, or a flowerbed”.
The answer to the first option was a clear majority, with 75 per cent of respondents saying that flowers should never be grown outdoors, and 25 per cent saying that plants should be cultivated indoors.
The second choice of 70 per cent and 16 per cent respectively was the choice of the “wildflower” crowd, and was the only option to support indoors-grown plants.
A third option, which respondents preferred to keep for themselves, was to say that they would not plant anything indoors.
In fact, the poll showed that respondents preferred the plants they grow indoors, and those plants are mostly the same as those that are grown outdoors.
Poll respondents also reported that indoor-grown flowers have a higher yield and produce higher quality, and are easier to maintain than outdoor plants.
